OUR PRODUCTS
OUR DESIGN CENTRE
4500 SQM DEDICATED TO DESIGN
Day in, day out, at the Decathlon water sports research and development centre, the Olaian team designs, prototypes and tests the brand's future innovations.
The 4500 sqm centre dedicated to design is located on the Basque coast, a few metres from Hendaye's surf spots so that we can be in close proximity to surfers. This centre is now home to 200 staff, half of which are product engineers, designers, prototype engineers, garment designers or product managers.
A HIVE OF CREATIVITY
To bring their ideas to life, the teams have an impressive infrastructure at their fingertips.
The "garage" is a hive of creativity, a juxtaposition of rudimentary and high-tech tools, mixed in with 3D printers and a component library.
When it comes to textiles, our garment designers, prototype engineers and designers bring their ideas to life in the workshop. This 200-sqm space is dedicated to manual prototyping and is kitted out with some 30 industrial sewing machines, a laser cutting table and a sublimation printing workshop.
To finalise our designs and perform test protocols, the centre has a giant test pool, with its very own diving pit.
Tests in real-life conditions are carried out directly in the ocean, thanks to the exceptional location of the centre, which is surrounded by water.
In this remarkable facility dedicated to innovation, more than 1000 prototypes are developed each year and more than 10 patents are filed.
